ALVESTON JUNIORS U11s 4 BREDON COLTS U11s 3
Alveston Juniors Under 11s recorded their first Mid-Warwickshire League win of the season on Saturday, winning an exciting game 4-3 against Bredon at the Home Guard Club.
Superior finishing and gritty determination were the cornerstones of an encouraging display in a game which could have gone either way. Alveston had to dig deep after being both 2-0 and 3-1 up but when Bredon equalised it seemed they would go on to win. However a cool finish by Josh Watson as the keeper advanced won the game for Alveston.
Before that Jamie Stephens had scored twice in the first half, both opportunistic strikes – the first seizing on defensive hesitation, the second a close-range goal when the keeper parried Tristan Day’s effort. Bredon came back with a strike normally associated with the ‘Goal of the Month’ awards, then Tristan Day scored a superb goal of his own, beating three opponents before rounding the goalie.
Bredon showed pace and invention up front but a combination of poor finishing, agile goalkeeping from Breton Day and some excellent clearances from Kuba Piechowicz ( equally adept with either foot) and Alex Hawley, they could have been in front themselves.
Harry Hodges was sturdy in the middle, Stephens always alert in attack and Ben Harding showed some exceptional skills on a hard surface to trap and run with the ball effectively. In fact, both Harding and Watson had shots that hit the bar as Alveston made more use of their chances to claim a welcome three points.
