PRESS RELEASE REF:N&J142 NEW FOOTBALL TEAM SUPPORTED BY PARENTS Parent power is helping the latest intake of young footballers at Alveston to find success in their first season. The players of Alveston Boys under 8’s are already benefiting from their parents’ wealth of skills and contacts - and have got off to a flying start. Andrew Dudley, a partner of Needham & James Solicitors for 25 years, whose son William plays in the team, has taken on the role of team manager and has also secured sponsorship from his firm to buy the team kit and training jackets for the winter. Stratford Town Trust has also sponsored the team, buying footballs, training cones, substitute bibs, and paying pitch and referee fees. Alveston Football Club was formed in 1927 and nicknamed the Home Guarders. Mr Dudley said: “It’s a parent-led team, with the parents responsible for managing, coaching, and fundraising - we even have a parent videoing the matches for training purposes. “Everyone involved in the club and the team is very excited. It’s interesting dealing with the children’s expectations; having won their first game 11-1 and the second game 3-0 they thought they were invincible until they lost their next match 3-0. They love every minute of it from Friday’s training to Saturday’s final whistle.” Ends September 2009
