The Creation of our Team
25 Oct 2009

The team that currently plays in the U16 age group came into existence at the start of the 2004/2005 season as a U11 team in Division 2 of the MWFL. Duncan Coulson was the manager and remained manager until the start of the 2007/2008 season when management of the squad was taken over by Gordon Matthew and Ken Youngs. Of the original team only 2 founder players have played every season since it's creation. They are Jon O'Shea and Chris Youngs, Dom Fox was also a founder member but left in 2005 and rejoined in 2007.
The team gained promotion to Division 1 in its first season and remained in the MWFL until the 2008/2009 when it gained its highest league position of 3rd in Division 1. In the 2009/2010 season the team moved to The Coventry Minor League Division 2 where it currently plays. The squad has one two five a side tournaments. Their own Alveston Tournament at the end of the 2006/2007 season and the prestigious Admirals Tournament at the end of the 2008/2209 season. The team continues to grow and improve both in both technical skills and team spirit

U13s win Alveston 6 a-side Tournament
27 Oct 2009

The U13 team pulled off a magnificent victory in the final of their age group The group stages started with a 2-1 victory over Stratford Town Blues with goals from Chris Youngs and Alex Mills-Baker. This was followed by a battling performance and against a large and physical Bilton winning 1-0 with a goal from Kieran McMoran and some outstanding play from keeper Aaron Winter. The next game was a great display of man marking especially from Jon O'shea , preventing a fluid and gifted Kalsa team from scoring in a 0-0 A 3-0 hiding of Welford booked Alveston into the semi finals with 2 goals from Youngs and another from Mills-Baker. Thier semi final opponents were the Kalsa B team. JJ Fay was bullish in attack while McMoran inspired the midfield, the deadlock finally being broken when Youngs skipped past two defenders to fire low into to bottom corner for victory. The final against Stratford Town Colts was a tough affair, Adam Lloyd and O'Shea snuffed out attack after attack and Ollie Coulson and Fay battled for every ball in midfield as neither side could gain any advantage. Extra time and penalties followed and although Alveston had the better chances it went to a penalty shoot out. At all even after 6 penalties . it now went to sudden death. WInters saved the first Stratford Penatly and Youngs stepped up to drill the ball into the back of the net to make it Alveston's day.

Alveston win Admirals Festival of Football
10 May 2009

Admiral's Festival of Football

The Alveston U15 squad put in outstanding performances at the prestigious Admirals Festival of Football, one of the largest in the Midlands, getting both teams into the Semi Finals and going on to winning the Final. Alveston Blues first game was a tough encounter against Frank Parker Swifts, winning the game 1-0, the goal from Cox and some fine goalkeeping from Winters. The next game was a hard fought 0-0 draw against Bedworth Eagles, Smith going close on several occasions up front while Rahimi stood firm in defence. An exciting 2-2 draw against Exhall Tigers followed, quickly going 1-0 up but then finding themselves 1-2 down, they composed themselves fought back and equalised. Youngs being the provider for both Cox goals. The final game of the group was against old foes Tasmanian Cruisers and a real battle ensued. Fox was imperious in defence while Smith and Youngs drove up and down the pitch scrapping for every ball, as Winters pulled off some dazzling saves in the Blues goal. Finally Smith, from a Wyatt cross, buried the ball in the Taz net for a 1-0 victory. Topping their side of the draw the Blues were in the semi finals
In the other side of the draw Alveston Reds were also having an excellent afternoon their opening game against Exhall Pumas, fine work by Redmayne putting Robinson through for a 1-0 win. Old sparing partners Bilton were the Reds next opposition and despite some great play by McHugh, Matthew and Trotman, the Reds went down 0-1 Picking themselves up with some style they then proceeded to demolish Stanton 4-0, a hat-trick from Robinson and a penalty from Peggram. The last game of the group was against a very strong Kettering Generals team. Matthew and Redmayne battled away in midfield and Lees performed heroics in goal but they were finally defeated 2-1 Robinson again finding the net. The Reds had claimed second place in their side of the draw meaning that they were unfortunately pitted against the Blues. Knowing each other so well the match was a real game of cat and mouse. Trotman and Robinson battled away up front against Fox and Rahimi in defence and Redmayne and Matthew tangled with Youngs and Wyatt in midfield. While Smith & Cox, ever dangerous in front of goal, skirmished with McHugh and Peggram in defence at the other end. Keepers Winters and Lees were both kept busy making fine saves as the game swung from end to end, neither side gaining any advantage. Full time arrived and extra time with the golden goal was the deciding factor as finally the Blues claimed victory when Cox found the back of the net. Sadly the Reds could go no further. The Blues were to carry the Alveston banner into the final against Kettering Generals. Cheered on by the Reds, the Blues fought like Trojans for every ball, not allowing Kettering to settle and play their effective passing game. The game progressed at a frantic pace until finally Youngs flicked the ball through to Cox who, deadly as ever, fired low into the bottom corner. Down but not out Kettering threw everything at the Blues in a vain attempt to equalise but Alveston were not about to surrender their precious lead and fought tooth and nail for every ball. Fox & Winters being the rocks in defence upon which Kettering’s hopes were dashed. The game ending a deserved 1-0 victory, and Alveston crowned worthy winners of the U15 Competition.
