Alveston U16 were unlucky not to come away with a point from an exciting away fixture against Chapelfield Colts, eventually losing 5-4. Alveston started the game looking very rusty after the long weather enforced break and put themselves on the back foot after some lacklustre performances in midfield and defence gifted Chapelfield two easy goals. Finally Alveston settled and the midfield began to play, a fine run down the wing and cross from Powell found Cox who fired into the corner of the net to make it 2-1. Alveston continue to keep the pressure on Chapelfield with Magro, Wyatt and Proctor working hard in midfield while O’Shea put in some penetrating runs out of defence, to get the ball to the forwards. Robinson being very unlucky with a fierce shot flying just over the bar. Alveston continued to push forward and a clever passing interchange between Matthew and Youngs down the wing put Powell away to level the scores at 2-2. Chapelfield hit back and despite some good defending from Fox and McHugh, again moved ahead and would have increased their lead further but for some fine keeping by Lees. Alveston reset themselves again and went for goal, with Youngs shooting wide and then from a corner, a fantastic volley from Trotman at the far post levelled the score again, at 3-3. Fildew and Smith were working hard on the left to contain the constant threat of the Chapelfield attack while at the other end Cox forced a good save for the keeper. However, again a combination of some sloppy defending and tired legs in the heavy ground saw Chapelfield score once and then twice in quick succession. Alveston had to throw caution to the wind in the final 10 minutes and went for broke. Cox hit the bar and then Trotman scored, after a great solo run to make it 5-4. Alveston continue to lay siege to the Chapelfield goal right up to the final whistle but were unable to force a deserved equaliser. Man of the Match was Proctor for and outstanding display in midfield
